1974 Blue Bird Wanderlodge 28' x 8' Class A Motor Coach with 577 cubic inch gasoline engine (replaced with new engine in 1990 and only has approximately 2,000 miles on it). The odometer now reads 15,794.6 miles. The brakes are hydraulic, and it has an Allison automatic transmission. The coach is fitted with a 6.5 Onan generator with approximately 334 hours total time. There is a full-width storage bay underneath the rear bedroom, with rear outside access doors.
The coach has a propane gas heating system, and two roof air units, and a propane gas hot water heater. These have not been used for several years and may require some attention. The sewer holding tank is in place, and has a dump valve. The fresh water tank has been removed, however, I still have the tank, pump and valves, and it can be reinstalled.
The exterior siding is ribbed sheet steel and is brown and beige. There are no body dents, rust, and no broken glass. The entrance/exit door is on the passenger side in the center. The coach was originally built to sleep eight. The floor plan has a front lounge with a pilot and co-pilot seat, built-in sofa that opens to sleep 2, and has a clothes closet; the galley kitchen has a propane gas stove and oven, gas/electric refrigerator, sink, and the table has seating for 4 and converts to sleep 2; bath with shower, sink and toilet; rear bedroom is unfurnished, and will accommodate a double bed, or maybe a queen bed.
Known history of coach: I purchased it in 1990 after it was traded in by a local chiropractor who used it to attend horse racing events. He pulled his horse trailer behind without difficulty. He had the motor and transmission, and generator replaced before he traded it in. I used the coach for approximately one year as a backup/spare medical testing unit for my industrial health testing company, accumulating low mileage and low hours of use. I never used it for recreational purposes, however, with some work it could be used recreationally for the fraction of the cost of a newer coach.
Known needs: (1) new master brake cylinder, (2) fuel tanks should be cleaned, and, (3) probable replacement of tires.

It has a 3208 Cat diesel engine which was replaced at 34,000 miles after oil plug was left out after servicing. A remanufactured engine was installed thereafter. It has a 5-speed Allison transmission with dual Spicer rear ends with interlock. Gross vehicle weight is approximately 42,000 pounds and it has lead-shielded walls, floor and ceiling. The white exterior paneling is a light-weight aluminum alloy and is riveted to the frame. The coach has air brakes, and has front and rear hydraulic leveling jacks for ground stabilizers. It has an outside rear-mounted 3-phase 208 heating and cooling system, backed up with propane heat to prevent freezing in the winter. It also has 2 roof-mounted air-conditioning units. A 220 single-phase to 3-phase transformer is included with the coach.
Cabins:
In the front cabin is a large 5,000 pound capacity passenger side platform lift which easily accommodates a wheel chair, gurney, or hospital bed. The lift floor has security tie-downs to prevent accidents. Access to the coach from this lift is through a 7-foot electric rollup door. The rear cabin has a 7-foot by 2-foot pullout expansion used for storage. Front cabin and rear cabin doors are equipped with aluminum self-contained fold-in/fold-out steps with steel hand rails. Both doors have windows.
The rear cabin has a sink with fresh water holding tank, and a waste water holding tank. The coach driving cab has dual cab doors, and pilot and passenger seating separate from the main coach rooms.
History of coach:
Originally built and purchased by a team of Dallas, Texas doctors as a mobile medical coach to transport a full-body CT Scanner (Cat Scan unit) from one hospital to another in Texas. In 1991, I purchased it from the group after they declared bankruptcy. I used it as a medical industrial health test coach until I sold the business in 1999. It has not been used since that time.
Possible Uses:
It would make an excellent RV for the handicapped, or as a strategic mobile command post for a sheriff’s office or police department, mobile construction office, or whatever you can think of.
